In your opinion, how can we encourage sustainable shopping practices?

We can encourage sustainable shopping by promoting awareness about the environmental impact of our purchases. Educating consumers on the benefits of buying eco-friendly products or supporting local businesses can make a big difference. Retailers can also offer incentives, like discounts for bringing reusable bags or choosing items with minimal packaging. It’s about making sustainability both attractive and accessible.

What are some of the reasons shopping has become widespread appeal?

Shopping has widespread appeal because it’s both a necessity and a form of entertainment. The variety of products, the convenience of online shopping, and the constant innovation in fashion and technology keep people interested. Additionally, shopping is often linked to social status and personal expression, making it a significant part of modern life. Marketing and advertising also play a big role in maintaining its appeal.

Are there any shops near your house?

Yes, there are several shops near my house, including a supermarket, a pharmacy, and a few small boutiques. It’s quite convenient to have these places within walking distance for everyday needs. The variety of shops also means I don’t have to travel far for most things I need. It’s really nice to have everything so close by.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of shopping in large shopping malls?

Shopping malls offer a one-stop experience, with a wide variety of stores, dining options, and entertainment under one roof, making them very convenient. They’re also great for social outings and provide a climate-controlled environment, which is a big plus. However, malls can be overwhelming, crowded, and sometimes lead to impulsive spending because of the sheer number of options. Additionally, they can contribute to the decline of small local businesses that can’t compete with the big brands in malls.

How do you feel when you can’t find what you want to buy?

It can be a bit frustrating when I can’t find what I want to buy. I usually start by checking different stores or looking online, but if it’s still not available, I might consider alternatives. Sometimes, not finding what I want leads me to discover something even better. So, while it’s annoying at first, it often works out in the end.

Describe a shopping experience that you enjoyed

I’d like to begin by sharing a shopping experience that was both enjoyable and memorable. Last summer, I had the chance to visit Ben Thanh Market in Ho Chi Minh City, one of the most famous and bustling markets in Vietnam. I had always heard about this place, so I was excited to finally experience it for myself.

As soon as I entered the market, I was struck by the vibrant atmosphere. The stalls were overflowing with colorful products—everything from fresh produce and spices to clothing and handmade crafts. The aroma of street food wafting through the air was irresistible, and I knew I had to try some local delicacies while I was there.

One of the highlights of my visit was haggling with the vendors. It’s a common practice at Ben Thanh, and it made the shopping experience more interactive and fun. I ended up buying a beautiful silk scarf, and I was quite proud of the price I negotiated. The vendor and I shared a laugh afterward, which added to the friendly and lively atmosphere of the market.

Moreover, I spent some time exploring the food stalls, where I tried banh mi and fresh spring rolls. The flavors were incredible, and the food was made right in front of me, which added to the experience. Sitting down with locals at a small table, sharing a meal, and chatting about life in Ho Chi Minh City made me feel like I was truly immersed in the culture.

This shopping experience was not just about buying things; it was about engaging with the local culture, enjoying the vibrant atmosphere, and creating lasting memories. It’s an experience I’ll always cherish and one that made my trip to Ho Chi Minh City unforgettable.

How do you feel about shopping in general?

In general, I have a fairly neutral feeling about shopping. I enjoy it when it’s for something I’m excited about, like a new book or a special gift. But when it comes to routine shopping, like groceries, it feels more like a task that needs to be done. I try to keep it efficient so it doesn’t take up too much of my time.

Describe your favorite shop./ A shop you often visit

I’d like to talk about a shop that I visit quite often and really enjoy. It’s a small, independent bookstore called “The Book Nook,” located in the heart of my neighborhood. This place has become my go-to spot for finding new reads, unwinding, and even discovering unique gifts.

Firstly, what I love about The Book Nook is its cozy and inviting atmosphere. The moment you walk in, you’re greeted by the warm scent of coffee and the sight of shelves filled with books of all genres. The wooden floors creak slightly as you walk around, and there’s always soft, instrumental music playing in the background, which makes it a perfect place to relax and lose track of time.

Moreover, the shop has an excellent selection of books. Whether I’m in the mood for a classic novel, the latest bestseller, or a thought-provoking non-fiction, I can always find something that catches my eye. They also have a special section for Vietnamese literature, which I appreciate because it allows me to explore and connect with my cultural heritage.

In addition, the staff at The Book Nook are incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. They always have great recommendations and are happy to chat about books. I remember once when I was looking for a gift, the owner personally helped me pick out a beautifully illustrated edition of a classic, which ended up being the perfect present.

In conclusion, The Book Nook is more than just a shop for me—it’s a place where I can escape, explore new worlds through books, and feel a sense of community. It’s a little haven that I always look forward to visiting, and I leave every time with a smile and a new book in hand.

What risks would you take when shopping online?

Shopping online comes with risks like receiving poor quality products, items that don’t match their descriptions, or dealing with fraudulent websites. There’s also the possibility of personal data breaches when entering payment information. Shipping delays or issues with returns can be frustrating as well. Despite these risks, many people find the convenience of online shopping worth it.

Do you enjoy studying alone or with friends?

It depends. There are times when I need a quiet space to focus on my studies, which is best achieved through solitary study. On the other hand, group study can be beneficial for collaborative learning where we can exchange ideas and solve problems together. Both approaches have their merits and contribute to my overall learning experience.

Do you think that some businesses (e.g. banks and travel agents) will only operate online in the future?

It’s likely that many businesses, especially banks and travel agencies, will move predominantly online in the future. The convenience of digital services, from online banking to booking travel, is hard to beat. However, some people still value face-to-face interactions, particularly for complex transactions or advice, so there will likely be a need for at least some physical presence. Over time, the balance may shift more towards digital, but a complete move online might not happen for all businesses.

What kinds of shops are there where you live?

Where I live, there’s a good mix of shops. We have supermarkets, clothing stores, electronics shops, and a few specialty boutiques. There are also some nice cafes and restaurants, which add to the area’s charm. It’s a pretty well-rounded neighborhood, so I don’t usually need to go far to find what I’m looking for.

Describe a period of time from your studies that was the most difficult for you

And whether you felt you were successful in overcoming the difficulties

Today, I would like to talk about the toughest period I faced during my studies. It occurred in my final year of high school when I was preparing for the national university entrance exam.

The reason why it was hard was because of the huge pressure and expectations associated with this exam. Its results would determine the university and major I would be admitted to, therefore shaping my future career prospects. However, the competition was intense, with countless students applying for limited spots in prestigious universities. And the fear of disappointing my family and teachers further added to the stress.

During that time, I dedicated long hours to self-study in the evenings and weekends while attending school during the day. I focused on revising all the subjects covered in the exam, from mathematics and physics to literature and English. To overcome the difficulties, I had various strategies such as asking for guidance from my teachers, taking extra classes 4 days a week, and forming study groups with my classmates to help each other out. I also practiced past exam papers to become familiar with the upcoming exams.

All in all, even though it was tiring, I'm happy to say that my hard work paid off as I got accepted into my dream university. I'm grateful for that period when I look back because it taught me how to thrive when facing tough challenges, and those skills have continued to help me throughout my academic journey.(Hôm nay, tôi muốn nói về thời gian khó khăn nhất trong quá trình học tập của mình.
